West Coast Fever’s newest recruit Emma Cosh is excited to be joining the 10-player squad next season.
Cosh had been playing for the East Freo Sharks in the Gold Industry Group West Australian Netball League earlier this year, before being called up to travel to Queensland with the Fever team.
“I was extremely excited to have been given the opportunity to be part of the 2020 team,” Cosh said.
There were plenty of mixed emotions and sacrifices Cosh had to prepare for this season.
“Part of me was extremely nervous and overwhelmed as I was giving up my full-time job as a teacher. But I knew that this was an opportunity that I couldn’t give up as I had worked so hard for so long,” she said.
Cosh made her debut in goal attack in Round 1 of the Suncorp Super Netball League, later transitioning to wing attack in Round 9 after in replacement of a season ending knee injury to Ingrid Colyer.
The 27-year-old cemented her position in the starting seven and continued her superb form playing in her first SSN finals series, where she earned Player of the Match honours in the preliminary final.
She then played in her first grand final, the Club’s second in three years.
Cosh’s versatility and willingness to take on any challenge earned her a playing contract for the 2021 season, cementing herself in wing attack.
“I am so excited to be a part of the playing group next year. I don’t think it has sunk in yet, but I can’t wait to start, it’s a dream come true,” Cosh said.
Cosh said she is looking forward to getting back on court next season taking plenty of learnings from what was an unbelievable year for Fever.
“I am looking forward to working harder and building stronger relationships and combinations with all the girls.”
Cosh is a product of the Netball WA pathway having first played for Falcons Netball Club in the Geraldton Netball Association before moving to Perth where she joined East Freo Sharks in the GIG WANL.
“When I entered the Netball WA pathway, I always wanted to strive to do my best,” she said.
“The past three years as a training partner has certainly been challenging and rewarding. Working as a full-time teacher and keeping up with the training schedule was difficult at times, but I have always enjoyed the opportunity to push myself and to be in that environment.
“So, to have been given the opportunity as a contracted player for 2021 really does mean everything to me.
“Living away with the team was a very special experience and while we wished we could be at home playing in front of our crowd, I think it really brought us together- we really were a family.
“I know we will come back even stronger next season and believe we can go all the way- so to be a part of that journey would be really exciting,” Cosh said.
