West Coast Fever new recruit Emma Cosh is focusing on increasing her strength in the lead up to the 2021 Suncorp Super Netball season.
“I’m working on my variety in the wing attack position and also a big one for me is strength, so I’m working closely with the Performance Coach and making sure I’m getting stronger so I’m ready to take on that role,” said Cosh.
Traditionally a goal attack, Cosh secured a spot in West Coast Fever’s starting seven at wing attack last season after Ingrid Colyer went down with an ACL injury.
“I’m hoping to play at wing attack again this season, we have spoken a little bit about the goal attack role, so I have both those positions to look forward to, but this season I am mainly focusing on wing attack,” said Cosh.
“At first it was a bit tough, the transition from goal attack to wing attack, but I’ve just focused on taking my strengths from the goal attack position into the wing attack position.”
Claiming a spot in Fever’s extended 12-player squad for the 2020 season in the Queensland hub, Cosh was forced to make some sacrifices including her full-time job as a teacher.
“I actually got permanency in my teaching role at the end of last year, but I’ve dropped down to a 0.2 load, which is a couple of half days a week,” said Cosh.
“I didn’t want to take too much on because I want to make the 2021 season my main priority, but I really enjoy teaching, it’s something I have a real passion for, and I’m extremely grateful that I can continue doing it alongside my netball career.”
Cosh says despite the news of the deduction of 12 premiership points, the team are focused on the 2021 season and committed to making finals.
“It was really disappointing to find out about the breaches,” said Cosh.
“Last year was a really challenging season for the team, being away for 82 days and all, but I think we’re really good at coming together as a team when we’re faced with a challenge and we proved that last season.”
“We’re just going to treat it as another challenge and give it our all and make sure we’re just focused on the 2021 season.”
