West Coast Fever Captain Courtney Bruce won’t just be a netball leader this year, with the defender set to educate and encourage the State’s netballing community around the importance of fitness, health and nutrition, after signing up as a LiveLighter Ambassador.
Bruce’s main program will be the free Coached by Courtney online series, where participants will have access to her health and wellbeing programs, fitness tips, recipes and netball drills.
Participants will also have the ability to win prizes throughout the program, and will receive regular updates via email from the Fever and Diamonds defender herself.
The program is free to join here.
The 26-year-old said she was proud to help educate West Australians on their health and fitness journeys.
“I’m really excited to be a LiveLighter Ambassador,” Bruce said.
“I am a big believer in staying physically and mentally fit, and the food we eat plays a significant part in that process, particularly in our current climate of becoming more isolated.”
“Healthway have been wonderful supporters of West Coast Fever for an incredible length of time, and the messages they promote are important to the West Australian community.”
“I’m looking forward to hosting the Coached by Courtney series, and I encourage everyone to get on board and take the challenge.”
Healthway’s Director of Health Promotion Julia Knapton, said the partnership with the West Coast Fever shows the substantial role sport plays in improving the health and wellbeing of the Western Australian community.
“Through this initiative, athletes will connect with fans and the wider netball community to create awareness and education around the importance of healthy eating.
"Our research shows the West Coast Fever have been highly successful in creating awareness of the LiveLighter message in the 2019 season. Courtney’s role as ambassador for 2020 will mean continued efforts to encourage the community to improve their health by making healthier choices.”
LiveLighter’s Obesity Prevention Manager, Kelly Kennington, said they were excited to have such a high profile Perth athlete promoting healthy messages to the WA community.
“We are thrilled to have Courtney on board to promote healthy messages to West Coast Fever members and fans,” Ms Kennington said.
“Unfortunately many elite athletes send the wrong messages by promoting fast foods and sugary drinks, so the fact that Courtney is promoting healthy messages is a credit to her and her club, and we’re proud to be partnering with such an amazing role model.”
