West Coast Fever captain Courtney Bruce and rising star Sunday Aryang have been named in the Origin Australian Diamonds squad of 15 for the upcoming international Quad Series in England.
Bruce will have the opportunity to add to her 40 Australian caps, while Aryang is preparing to make her international debut after being added to the 2021/22 Diamonds squad following a break-out season with West Coast Fever.
“I’m super-stoked with the selection,” Aryang said.
“I knew there was a chance I could make it, but I tried not to think about it too much, so I was shocked when I got the call.
“It’s crazy to think how quickly things can come when you focus and try your hardest.”
Bruce said she was looking forward to the chance to represent Australia again in England.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve been to the UK and it feels like a long time since I’ve pulled a Diamonds dress on so I’m really excited,” she said.
“I’m really excited for Sunday too. She did a great job at camp and obviously our combination is strong, but the way that she worked in with the other girls too was really great.”
West Coast Fever CEO Simone Hansen congratulated both players on their selection and said she was looking forward to the upcoming series.
“To see two local West Australian players that have progressed through our grassroots pathway be selected to represent Australia is so inspiring,” Hansen said.
“Courtney and Sunday should be extremely proud of their achievement, as should all of the family, friends, coaches, teammates and volunteers that have played a role in their netball careers to date.
“I know how much planning by all of the competing countries has gone into making this Quad Series possible and I wish Courtney, Sunday, coach Stacey Marinkovich and all of the Australian players the very best of luck in England.”
The Diamonds will take on Netball England’s Vitality Roses, the New Zealand Silver Ferns and Netball South Africa’s SPAR Proteas at London's Copper Box Arena from 16-20 January, 2022.
The four sides will go head-to-head once, with a third and fourth place game and a final to decide the winner of the Netball Quad Series trophy.
Games will be broadcast live and ad-break free during live play on Fox Sports, available through Foxtel and Kayo Freebies, the new home of netball.
