West Coast Fever Captain and Samsung Australian Diamonds defender Courtney Bruce talks about someone who has had a big impact on her career behind the scenes.
Nicole Prothero from Southern Districts Netball Association was among the first to notice Bruce’s incredible talent when she was just 12 years of age.
Prothero went above and beyond from that moment on to help make Bruce the player she is today.
“She used to drive me to training, she would drive me up to Joondalup when we played State League there,” Bruce recalls. “She cooked me dinners and took me under her wing. I was young 15-year-old playing League so she just looked after me and still to this day makes me feel part of the region.”
Prothero has been a constant since. She is a Netball WA Life Member and supports Bruce at Fever home games.
“I still help out at Demons and when I pop down to Southern Districts, Nicole oversees the programs and her daughter Tayla is coming through the program,” Bruce said. “I was at Demons’ selections this year. I love it. Nicole has been a huge part of my netball career.”
