West Coast Fever Captain Courtney Bruce has continued her rise to elite echelon of defenders, after being selected in Australia’s 2019 Constellation Cup Team and 2019/20 Samsung Diamonds squad.
Bruce has been a staple in the Diamonds squad throughout 2019, leading the Australian defensive end at the Quad Series and Netball World Cup.
The 25-year-old has been rewarded for another strong showing on both the domestic and international fronts this season, ending her Fever campaign with 23 intercepts, 77 deflections and 13 rebounds from nine games.
Bruce said it was an honour to be selected.
“I love being a part of the Diamonds,” Bruce said.
“I am so pumped to be back in the green and gold after what has been an up and down year for me with injuries.”
“I am so excited for a Perth Test and to be able to wear the Diamonds dress at home in front of a home crowd at our home venue is something I can’t wait for. It makes me so happy.”
West Coast Fever Head Coach Stacey Marinkovich congratulated Bruce on her selection.
“Courtney has quickly become one of the world’s top defenders,” Marinkovich said.
“Her dedication and passion, on and off the court, make her a wonderful selection for the Constellation Cup, and I wish her the very best of luck in what should be an exciting series.”
“I have no doubt that Courtney will relish the opportunity to don the green and gold dress once again, and we look forward to watching her on the international stage.”
The Diamonds will bring a game to Perth for the first time since 2015, as they face the New Zealand Silver Ferns at RAC Arena on October 27 at 11am.
Bruce is the second West Australian selected in the Team, alongside shooter Caitlin Bassett.
