Teague-Neeld excited to wear the Indigenous Dress

Posted 2 months ago.

West Coast Fever Goal Attack Alice Teague-Neeld can’t wait to wear the Club’s Indigenous Dress for the first time this weekend.

While Indigenous Round is relatively new to Suncorp Super Netball, West Coast Fever has been a leader in the field and is celebrating a fourth dedicated Shooting Stars Round against the Adelaide Thunderbirds at RAC Arena on Saturday night.

Teague-Neeld, who crossed to Fever from Collingwood during the off-season, was blown away after taking part in the Dress Blessing Ceremony at the State Netball Centre on Thursday morning.

“It is my first look at the dress,” Teague-Neeld said. “I love it. It’s a beautiful piece of artwork and I can’t wait to wear something different.”

“I feel very proud and honoured to be able to wear this dress on Saturday and I think just from seeing the turnout today and the amount of effort that gets put into it, I think it’s quite amazing.”

“Fever especially as a club have been leading the way for the last few years. Coming in and seeing how much it means to everyone and having these kinds of days with the blessing, it really opens my eyes a little bit more and I’m learning every year so I think it’s great.”

Noongar Elder Aunty Roma Winmar performed a moving Blessing, while one of the Dress designers, Kylie Graham, was also in attendance.

Ten Shooting Stars Participants from remote WA currently taking part in a Leadership Camp in Perth presented the West Coast Fever players with their dresses as part of the ceremony.

“It’s awesome to have them come and present us with the dresses and they are just so excited and very shy but obviously you can tell and it’s really great,” Teague-Neeld said.

“Courtney (Bruce) has done a lot of work with the Shooting Stars girls and is a bit of a fan amongst the girls. I think it will be great to have more time and get to know them a little bit more.”

“Having all of this, with the song and the blessing, it just goes to show the meaning has for everyone and we’ll definitely be wearing this with pride on the weekend.”
