Friday joins West Coast Fever

Posted 3 months ago.

Versatile shooter Beryl Friday has joined West Coast Fever as a temporary replacement player.

Friday replaces Kaylia Stanton, who won’t play against the Vixens this weekend, and will need to pass a fitness test to be cleared to play against the Magpies, after a scan revealed a minor stress reaction in her foot.

Fever also travelled with Training Partner Emma Cosh to Melbourne today.

The 25 year old most recently played with Team Bath in the Vitality SuperLeague, and has represented the Queensland Firebirds, winning ANZ Championship titles with the Club in 2015 and 2016.

Friday is a proud Nyungkul woman of the Kuku Yalanji Nation, with connections to Birrigubba, Kaanju and Kamilaroi Nations as well.

West Coast Fever Head Coach Stacey Marinkovich said the Club was hopeful Stanton would be available for the Club’s Round 12 match against the Magpies.

“Kaylia has a stress reaction in her foot, so we will need to monitor her progress and reassess next week to see if she’s able to take the court against Collingwood,” Marinkovich said.

“Our medical team have made the decision to not risk Kaylia this weekend, and she will need to pass a fitness test before she’s cleared to play next week.”

Marinkovich welcomed Friday to the Fever Family.

“Beryl will be a welcome addition to our Club as a temporary replacement player, and I know that she will bring great character, energy and passion to West Coast Fever,” Marinkovich said.

“She is an all-round attacker with a lot of versatility, and we look forward to seeing her combine with Jhaniele, Alice and Emma on the court.”

West Coast Fever face the Melbourne Vixens in a must win clash at 1.00pm AWST tomorrow, with the game broadcast on Channel 9 and the Netball Live app.

Fever will then return home to face the Collingwood Magpies on Monday, August 12 at RAC Arena, with tickets selling fast for the blockbuster game.
