Fowler proud of Fever character

Posted 12 days ago.

Superstar Shooter Jhaniele Fowler admits she was frustrated to record a second draw of the season last weekend but has praised the character within West Coast Fever after back-to-back gruelling road trips.

Fowler contributed another 55 goals against the Queensland Firebirds in Brisbane at the weekend as the clock stopped with the teams locked at 62-62.

It came after Fever enjoyed a two-goal win in Bendigo a week earlier.

“Personally, a little bit disappointed we did not come away with the win but I’m happy that we still stuck to what we knew and came away with some points,” Fowler said.

“It does show that we can work under pressure so that’s good for us. We just need to cross that line just that bit more and make sure we finish off these games.

“It was good that we could come away with points on the road, knowing that we were away so it shows a lot of character as well.”

Fowler is working closely with emerging goal attack Kaylia Stanton, who contributed seven goals and 24 assists against the Firebirds.

“It’s building really well,” Fowler said. “Kaylia is stepping into the goal attack bib really well so I’m happy to be playing out there with her.”

Fowler said she can’t wait to get back in front of the passionate Fever crowd at RAC Arena when they take on the Greater Western Sydney Giants on Saturday night.

It is the first time the teams have met since last year’s Major Semi-Final in Sydney in which Fever emerged victorious.

“The big focus is just to play the Fever way and making sure that we stay united and come out with all the eight points if possible,” Fowler said.

Fowler sat out training on Tuesday as she club manages a hectic travel schedule.

“The body is feeling really good,” Fowler said. “Recovering well from the last two big travels.

“I just sat out for a bit of a rest.”

The towering Jamaican also said she was excited to have been selected for July’s World Cup in Liverpool.

“It’s always an honour to represent my country,” Fowler said.
