West Coast Fever will make the journey to Sydney for the second time in seven days when they take on the GIANTS Netball in the first Major Semi-Final in the Club’s history.
The prize on the line for the winner of the Major Semi-Final is a coveted home Grand Final.
In a fixturing anomaly, the two sides will resume battle after the Giants took home the points in Round 14 following a blistering first three quarters.
However, after the Giants opened up a 14-goal lead heading into the final quarter, Fever finally clicked into gear and almost pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in history.
A 22 goal to 11 final quarter saw the Giants win by just three goals, with the comeback sure to give Fever the confidence needed to topple the ladder-leading Giants and launch themselves into a historic club-first Grand Final.
The final quarter fight-back was led by the defensive group, where captain Courtney Bruce and Stacey Francis combined for three intercepts and seven deflections to turn the tide of the match.
Verity Charles also produced a season-high three intercepts and nine goal assists before an injury forced her off in the final minutes of the game. The Club will give her until the very last minute to prove her fitness for the Semi-Final.
Jhaniele Fowler produced another 60-plus goal performance, dominating the shooting circle as she has done throughout the year. Her 63 goals on Saturday night sees her finish the home and away season with an astounding competition record 783 goals.
However, the Giants fast start will be cause for concern for Fever. Giants Wing Attack Kim Green notched up 32 goal assists throughout the game and was instrumental in the early part of the match. West Coast will need to find a way to halt her influence on the game to make sure the momentum of the Giants does not get out of hand again.
