Grand Final rematch for Fever home opener

In an exciting boost for Members and fans, West Coast Fever’s first home game of the 2019 Suncorp Super Netball season will be a rematch of the closely contested 2018 Grand Final.

Fever will host the Sunshine Coast Lightning at 11am (AWST) on Sunday, May 5 at RAC Arena, with the Club expecting another blockbuster crowd for the rematch.

The 2018 Grand Final attracted a National League record crowd of 13,722, with that strong support continuing into 2019 through West Coast Fever Memberships, which are now on sale and selling quickly, with the Club confident of setting a new Membership record.

West Coast Fever Managing Director Simon Taylor said the match was another significant win for loyal Members and fans.

“Last year was an incredible season for our Club, both on and off the court, and our athletes delivered strong, gritty and passionate performances every time they stepped on the court, so for our first home fixture of 2019 to be a rematch of the Grand Final is certainly exciting,” Taylor said.

“Becoming a Member not only guarantees you a seat at all seven of our home games, but also means that you’re part of our journey toward winning our first premiership, and as a Club we’re working incredibly hard to deliver you the success that you so richly deserve.”

“Our purpose is we inspire and make you proud, and there’s no doubt that we’re looking to get one back on the Lightning, so the support of another big, loud and passionate home crowd will give us an extra lift on May 5 and across the rest of the season.”

Fever and Lightning produced three thrilling clashes in 2018, with Fever winning two games by a solitary goal, while the Lightning prevailed in the decider by three goals.

It’s shaping to be another blockbuster match between the two Clubs, with Courtney Bruce set to line up on Ugandan sensation Peace Proscovia, while Laura Langman and Verity Charles will go head to head in the Centre position once again, with Jhaniele Fowler to face South African defender Phumza Maweni for the first time in Suncorp Super Netball.

West Coast Fever’s season fixture will be announced on Wednesday, December 5, with the Club set to play all seven games at RAC Arena in 2019, thanks to a renewed commitment from the City of Perth.

With Fever’s Membership numbers flourishing, now is the perfect time to join the Fever Family and secure a 2019 Membership.
