West Coast Fever’s pre season preparations have taken an exciting leap forward, following a 51-44 victory over the highly-fancied Magpies Netball at the State Netball Centre this morning.
West Coast Fever Head Coach Stacey Marinkovich once again rotated through her players, with all athletes spending time on the court, including Jess Anstiss who returned to the side after missing yesterday's match.
Kaylia Stanton and Nat Medhurst continued to develop their partnership in the goal circle, with both players spending time at Goal Shooter and Goal Attack, while Ingrid Colyer showcased her fitness, playing four quarters for the second consecutive match.
Stanton was impressive against former team mate and Samsung Diamonds defender April Brandley, as well as Matilda Garrett and Training Partner Mary Livesy.
Training Partners Jess Eales, Jess Penny and Courtney Kruta again got a taste of the top flight, with the latter taking it up to Magpies Captain Madi Robinson in the third term.
Young gun Annika Lee-Jones was again an imposing figure in the defensive circle, playing on both Caitlin Thwaites and Erin Bell, while Stacey Francis moved to Goal Defence in the final term proving dominant against Magpies shooter Shae Brown.
Fever were in control for the best part of the match, only trailing the Magpies for a short period of time in the third term, with Marinkovich praising her side for their performances over the past two days.
“We’ve been working on things for the last six weeks and it was great to see it transfer from the training environment into match play these past two games,” Marinkovich said.
“Still using our combinations and depth of our squad was really promising and rewarding for the hard work the girls have been doing.”
“The thing that was good was that we got some goals ahead, then they pushed back and even though they kept coming, we were able to put our foot down and it didn’t matter who was out there.”
“Everyone played their role and I think that’s the biggest part for us, and when everyone does that the game plan starts to build.”
