Medhurst named in Australian Fast5 Squad

West Coast Fever Captain Nat Medhurst has today been named in the Australian Fast5 squad.

Already possessing one of the most impressive international resumes in the game, with 86 Test Matches, three World Cup victories and a Commonwealth Games Gold Medal, Medhurst will make her Fast5 debut at the World Series in October.

The experienced shooter will join Fever and Australian Fast5 Head Coach Stacey Marinkovich for the tournament in Melbourne, and said she was eager to test herself in a different format.

“It’s quite a dynamic format but I firmly believe my moving style, as well as my ability to shoot from distance, will be quite suited to Fast5,” Medhurst said.

“This is a very talented young squad and I’m quite excited to share my experience and knowledge, but also learn from those players who’ve had exposure to this form of the game.”

“Working with Stacey in a national environment was also a big drawcard and hopefully we can go one better than last year and win it in front of a home crowd.”

Fever Executive Officer Tamara Sheppard expressed the Club’s pride in its Captain.

“Nat is one of Australian netball’s most decorated players and it’s a credit to her professionalism and passion that she continues to push herself at the very highest level,” Sheppard said.

“Few things drive her as an athlete more than representing her country and it’s fitting to see her presented with another opportunity to do so.”

“I have no doubt Nat will put her best foot forward for this squad in their pursuit of victory at the World Series and, from our Club’s perspective, it will be fantastic to watch our Coach and Captain headline Australia’s campaign.”

In a further boost for Fever, talented young West Australian shooter Kaylia Stanton has been named as a Reserve in the squad.

The Club’s off-court Staff have also been handed higher honours, with Sheppard to act as Team Manager and Performance Analyst Gary Dawson to perform the same role in Marinkovich’s Australian Fast5 Staff.

The Fast5 Netball World Series will be contested between Australia, New Zealand, England, Jamaica, South Africa and Malawi at Hisense Arena in Melbourne from October 28-29.

General admission tickets will go on sale from Monday July 24, with a range of fan packages also on offer.
