West Coast Fever Head Coach Stacey Marinkovich says there’s an air of confidence about her side, heading into Saturday night’s Major Semi Final against Giants Netball.
It’s the second meeting between the two Clubs in as many weeks, and the West Coast side’s second consecutive trip to Sydney.
The winner of the Major Semi Final will earn the right to host the Grand Final a fortnight later, and Marinkovich said it was an exciting time for the Club.
“It’s silly to say it’s just another game, because it’s a final, and we have addressed that and had a really open discussion about how we need to address it,” Marinkovich said.
“Finishing in the top two took a lot of weight off everyone’s shoulders.”
“Particularly when the girls were flying back, there was quite an eruption on the plane when they had heard that the (Melbourne) Vixens won the first quarter bonus point.”
“We had a good review yesterday and a hard training today, so the spirits around the group are pretty high.”
Midcourter Verity Charles was cleared of any major damage to her left knee, following a clash with Giants Captain Kim Green, but Marinkovich said the Centre would travel to Sydney on Thursday, as would Training Partner, Jess Eales.
“There’s obviously no major damage, so once you get cleared from an ACL, that obviously brought a pretty big smile to the group,” she said.
“Obviously she’s still pretty sore, but we’re hopeful she’ll take part in some part of the finals, but we’re just going to have to play it day by day.”
“We will take 11 players this week, and even if she wasn’t to play this week, we would take her, she is a part of the group and she has done all the hard work the whole way through."
“She brings leadership off the court as well, she’s extremely passionate and she is part of the heart and soul of the Club.”
Fever will travel to Sydney on Thursday afternoon, ahead of the clash at Quaycentre on Saturday at 1.00pm (AWST).
