Francis excited following pre season trip

West Coast Fever defender Stacey Francis says the side’s pre season trip to Canberra and Sydney would hold them in good stead for the season proper, following their return to Perth last night.

Fever played five matches across the week, including two clashes against the Samsung Diamonds and one each against the Giants Netball, NSW Swifts and England Roses.

Francis said it provided the team with a fantastic opportunity to improve both on and off the court.

“To have so many games against such quality opposition was great, and we were all looking forward to the challenge of being in each other’s environments for an extended period of time,” Francis said.

“The trip enabled us to tick a lot of boxes and ensured we held each other accountable to our values away from the court as well.”

The defender credited the coaching and support staff for planning the trip, noting the importance of playing as many games as possible.

“I felt awesome and I thought the load was excellent,” she said.

“We were more than prepared for the games, and that’s thanks to the program that Stacey (Head Coach, Stacey Marinkovich) and Liam (Athletic Performance Coach, Liam Warwick) have put in place.”

“We built throughout the trip, and the fourth game against the Swifts was our most consistent and it was exciting to walk away with the win.”

Fever will now finalise their preparations for the 2018 Suncorp Super Netball season, with just over a month until the team travels to Adelaide to face the Thunderbirds in Round 1.

Fever’s first home game will be against the Magpies in a Saturday night blockbuster at Perth Arena.
