Fowler-Reid commits to Fever

West Coast Fever is pleased to announce the signing of Shooter Jhaniele Fowler-Reid.

The leading goal scorer from the final season of the ANZ Championship competition in 2016, as well as the inaugural season of the ANZ Premiership in New Zealand this year, Fowler-Reid will join Fever for their 2018 Suncorp Super Netball campaign.

The Jamaican International conveyed her enthusiasm about her move to Fever and the opportunity it presents.

“I’m really excited about joining Fever and motivated by the challenge it poses for me in adapting to a new environment,” Fowler-Reid said.

“Competing against the Club for many years they always looked like a unit that played for each other and that culture was really attractive because I’m a firm believer that it helps determine the success of a team.”

“I will be striving to do my best to contribute to our growth as a Club and I am looking forward to bringing a certain strength and reliability in the attacking end of the court.”

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to grow and gain a wealth of knowledge, particularly working with Nat Medhurst and Kaylia Stanton who I can’t wait to create an unbreakable combination with.”

Having most recently won the inaugural ANZ Premiership in the New Zealand Domestic competition with the Southern Steel, Fowler-Reid joins Fever at the peak of her career.

Executive Officer Tamara Sheppard believes Fowler-Reid’s signing is an indication of the Club’s growing stature, both on and off the court.

“Jhaniele is an outstanding athlete and, given her wealth of experience and success at the International and Domestic level, will be a welcome addition to our Club,” Sheppard said.

“We were resolute in the type of player we wanted to attract for next season in order to improve our Club’s Performance, and we view Jhaniele as the ideal fit in our attacking end.”

“Most importantly though, we’ve been thoroughly impressed by her professionalism throughout the process, as well as her desire to play her role within the broader Club, which certainly aligns with the culture we are building at Fever.”

“Jhaniele’s netballing resume speaks for itself and we are really excited by the potential she has, not only to impact our Club but also the premier domestic netball competition in the world.”

Fowler-Reid has proven to be lethal at the scoring post in her five seasons with the Steel, scoring 3,678 goals at 91% accuracy, including 790 goals at 92% accuracy and an average of 53 per game in 2017.

The 27-year-old also becomes the fourth international representative in Fever’s squad, having played for the Jamaican Sunshine Girls on 48 occasions, including a Bronze Medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Fowler-Reid fills Fever’s only vacant position in the Club’s contracted roster, joining Nat Medhurst, Courtney Bruce, Stacey Francis, Jess Anstiss, Verity Charles, Ingrid Colyer, Shannon Eagland, Kaylia Stanton and Annika Lee-Jones in the 2018 playing squad.

Fowler-Reid will now travel to Jamaica to join the Sunshine Girls for the upcoming international season, before arriving in Perth later this year to commence her pre-season training with Fever.
