West Coast Fever have been major winners at tonight’s Netball Australia Awards, with star shooter Jhaniele Fowler named Suncorp Super Netball Player of the Year and Stacey Marinkovich named the Joyce Brown Coach of the Year.
Fowler was also named alongside rising Fever star Jess Anstiss in the Suncorp Super Netball Team of the Year.
The Jamaican sensation dominated the League in her debut season, breaking the record for most goals in an individual match, a feat she achieved on two occasions (Round 1 v Thunderbirds and Round 8 v Thunderbirds), while she also broke the record for the most goals in a regular season with 783.
Fowler’s accolade caps off a sensational year for the shooter, a year in which she finished second in the Club’s MVP count and won the Club’s Player’s Player of the Year Award.
Marinkovich was rewarded for her leadership and progression through the coaching pathway, which saw Fever play in their maiden Grand Final, while she also led the Australian Fast5 team to a bronze medal at the Fast5 World Series in October.
Anstiss again demonstrated maturity beyond her years in 2018, owning the Wing Defence position, on her way to being named in her first Samsung Diamonds squad.
West Coast Fever Managing Director Simon Taylor congratulated the trio on their awards.
"These awards are incredible achievements for Jhaniele, Stacey and Jess,” Taylor said.
“Since the day she entered the League, Jhaniele has been a dominant force in the goal circle, and we’re incredibly proud of what she achieved in her first season in the green dress.”
“Stacey continues to be the best person to lead this Club, and this accolade is something that she is incredibly deserving of, and truly a just reward for what’s been a sensational season.”
“The impact Stacey has had on not just our netball club, but also the greater West Australian sporting landscape, is something she should be incredibly proud of.”
“Jess is a proud product of the Netball WA Athlete Pathway, and her naming in the Suncorp Super Netball Team of the Year is another feather in her cap, and something that she should be very proud of.”
The night also saw Courtney Bruce receive her Samsung Diamonds debut pendant, while Jess Anstiss was again recognised for winning the Rebel Young Star Award.
West Coast Fever’s 2019 Memberships are now on sale, with the Club already attracting record levels of registrations.
